There were moments in my career when I felt like I was doing everything right—working twice as hard, proving my worth, staying late, saying “yes” to every opportunity. And yet, I still found myself stuck, overlooked for promotions, questioning my own value, and wondering what I was missing.

I was watching others—less experienced, less prepared—get tapped on the shoulder for opportunities I hadn’t even known were available. It wasn’t just about hard work; it was about access, visibility, sponsorship.

No one handed me the blueprint for how to navigate the invisible hurdles Black women face in leadership. So, I created one.

The Unspoken Rules No One Told Us

We are brilliant, capable, and deserving of the rooms we step into—but the workplace wasn’t built with us in mind. Black women in leadership face unique challenges that aren’t in the standard career playbook.

📌 Sponsorship vs. Mentorship – Mentors give advice. Sponsors open doors. If you don’t have a sponsor advocating for you in rooms you’re not in, you’ll stay stuck.

📌 Strategy Over Burnout – “Working hard” isn’t the same as working smart. You need a game plan to align your career moves with where you want to go—not just where you are.

📌 Community is Power – Trying to navigate leadership in isolation is exhausting. A strong community can be the difference between career frustration and career acceleration.

I wish someone had pulled me aside and told me these things when I started. But now that I know? I refuse to keep it to myself.
