NICE TO MEET YOU

I'm Alia Sutton-Bey

Unsurprisingly, Alia has turned her passion for supporting and educating others into a coaching and consulting business. Alia studied community counseling psychology and has always seen herself as a supporter of others. From positions in workforce development, community recreation, education, behavioral health, employment social enterprise, and now CEO of her boutique training and consulting firm, PACE Coaching Academy, Alia’s work has allowed her to draw on her profound sense of social and economic justice.

Alia has a Master’s Degree in Human Service Administration with a concentration in Community Counseling Psychology. As a Behavior Specialist in the School-based behavioral health system for 15 years, she developed a deeper understanding of the importance of using a trauma-informed lens to promote resilience and well-being. Once Alia realized the impact of trauma-informed care, she dedicated herself to becoming a practitioner in her personal and professional life. This, combined with her over 20 years of experience as a middle manager and nonprofit leader, is the catalyst for the Trauma-Responsive Managers Series.  A teacher at heart, she has taught at Orleans Technical College and Ashford University.

Several organizations have recognized her commitment to youth and community. She was honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a Diversity Business Leader. She received this recognition for her work developing talent pipelines for traditionally excluded people in the technology industry and her deep understanding of the importance of creating diverse workplaces that are welcoming and inclusive. She has helped organizations take concrete steps to promote inclusion and equitable opportunities, such as implementing training programs and policies that act as bias disrupters. Her dedication and hard work have resulted in more organizations celebrating differences and fostering a sense of belonging for all employees.

Alia believes a Trauma-Responsive organization is an organization committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Alia holds a Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Building a Diverse Workforce from Cornell University.

"I liked the scenarios and circumstances raised by fellow workshop participants. It was great seeing how the information and frameworks Alia shared applied to our work."

- Participant Trauma-Responsive Manager Series

"I liked and benefitted from Alia's facilitation style. She made sure to guide us through understanding the supervision framework, and also offer us space for self-reflection. I also appreciated how she connected the supervision framework to being trauma-informed. The link between the two was evident as she gave us specific ways and directions to be more trauma-informed in our day-to-day supervision and the potential progressive discipline of team members."
